Robert Baer, CIA |
CIA Middle Eastern specialist. Worked on the early stages of the investigation into the Lockerbie bombing. Has claimed in the press and on television that there was "Grade A intelligence" to show that Iran requested and funded the Lockerbie bombing, but that this was ignored for strategic reasons. "Western intelligence had indisputable evidence that the Iranians were, in July 1988, planning to attack aircraft. We were aware that an Iranian from the Iranian National Revolutionary Guard corps went to a Palestinian camp outside Beirut where he met Dalkamoni. It was grade A intelligence. It doesn't get any better... Two days after Lockerbie, there was a transfer payment of $11 million dollars." Q. Why target Libya? A. "Look at Iran's population. Look at the threat posed to the Gulf. To oil. Look at their ability to take reprisals all over the world. It was not politically convenient to go after Iran. Not just inconvenient, it was impossible. The Libyans were identified as the culprits because they were indictable. They were somebody you could bring to Justice." If Baer is correct, then the bomb timer fragment which pointed to Libya - and only to Libya - must have been planted. Home... |
